As the population grows, and we run out of farming land, along with climate change, the future of farming is to bring them into our cities. Creating high tech vertical farms that use aeroponics or hydroponics. From an underground farm in London, to a Japanese office building with a rice paddy field. Across the world people and companies are investing in creating new ways and technology to provide a more sustainable future. Big name investors include Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Leonardo DiCaprio, and even the former McDonalds CEO Don Thompson. All pushing the technology of farming and agriculture forward. Companies highlighted in this video include: AeroFarms, Growing Underground, Square Roots (who have Kimbal Musk, brother of Elon Musk, as a co-founder), the Open Agriculture Initiative, Persona Group, Farm One, Bowery, Plenty, Impossible Foods, and Beyond Meat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGyAeqdkkbwVideo can’t be loaded because JavaScript is disabled: How Much Can Vertical Farming Improve? (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGyAeqdkkbw) How Much Can Vertical Farming Improve? Exa CognitionIn the last video we saw the different types and the potential of vertical farming, but we also saw how it is mostly limited to leafy greens. How can we improve vertical farming to grow more types of food, and how big can the impact be? We saw how the most promising type of vertical farm is the plant factory, and how it is more advanced than a hydroponic greenhouse. Not only does its use hydroponics but it also utilizes artificial grow lights and multiple growing levels. It has a much greater level of control over it’s environment, allowing it to boost yield. While Plant Factories might be the most viable version of vertical farming, is it going to be enough to impact the global issues? Agriculture is both a contributor and solution to major global issues, from climate change to world hunger. Can the plant factory help to solve these problems? What technology improvements are needed to make vertical farms profitable and sustainable? From the LED grow light, to solar energy, future tech will play a key role in reducing the cost and carbon footprint of this technology. But it’s not just renewable wind energy that will improve the energy efficiency. There are many improvements that can be made and we look at them in this video. As technology improves, vertical farms can broaden the variety of crops grown profitably. The difference between growing lettuce and growing rice is significant. What will it take to close the gap? A fundamental force of nature, gravity shapes our entire universe, sculpting galaxies and warping space and time. But gravity’s strange powers, discovered by Albert Einstein, also affect our daily lives in the most unexpected ways. As Jim tells the story of gravity, it challenges his own understanding of the nature of reality. The science of gravity includes the greatest advances in physics, and Jim recreates groundbreaking experiments in gravity including when the Italian genius Galileo first worked out how to measure it. Gravity science is still full of surprises and Jim investigates the latest breakthrough – ‘gravity waves’ – ripples in the vast emptiness of space. He also finds out from astronauts what it’s like to live without gravity. But gravity also directly affects all of us very personally – making a difference to our weight, height, posture and even the rate at which we age. With the help of volunteers and scientists, Jim sets out to find where in Britain gravity is weakest and so where we weigh the least. He also helps design a smartphone app that volunteers use to demonstrate how gravity affects time and makes us age at slightly different rates. And finally, Jim discovers that despite incredible progress, gravity has many secrets. ++++++++++++ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLLcGmvW8WAVideo can’t be loaded because JavaScript is disabled: Rare look inside Bank of England’s gold vaults – BBC News (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLLcGmvW8WA) Rare look inside Bank of England’s gold vaults –BBC NewsThe Bank of England’s gold vaults hold £194bn worth of gold bars. I don’t focus at all on the split, even though it is a major part of this strategy, I will leave the brood nest management for its own video. During the 2018 crop year, my honey crop came in hard off the start and then ended extremely early. I typically get flows that run well into August but this year my flows ended in last week of July. Too hot and too dry. With these type of unpredictable weather conditions it is very important to capitalize on that nectar flow the moment it starts to flow. This is the reason why I put so much attention towards colony population brood nest management. Last year within roughly 4-5 weeks, we gathered 197,000 lbs off 1200 production hives. Very little came in on the nucs because they matured later in summer. But we did fill some boxes in some yards 🙂 We never know whats ahead of us so that is why I manage to grab it when its there! without capitalizing during the opportune times, we risk missing our main stream of income.
